Tablescape Thursday ~ Mojito Monday

I am happy to once again participate in Tablescape Thursday hosted by Susan @ Between Naps On The Porch. Please visit Susan's wonderful blog to view her always so beautiful tablescape and click on the others who are joining in the fun this time to view their creations!

I'm using Tablescape Thursday to highlight one of the highlights of my week!
Mojito Mondays!
Well, it's not just the Mojitos that highlight my Mondays, it's also the fact that my husband has been taking a lot of Mondays off from work, and then we usually take a drive to enjoy the beach, and we come home and relax by making ourselves a couple of Mojitos. I found an amazing recipe for the perfect Mojito from Bill @ Affordable Accoutrements (you can find the recipe here). My husband and I enjoy his recipe very much!
We first debuted Bill's recipe at a family party and it was a big hit!

We usually take these wonderful drinks outside on the deck. Now, I do nothing fancy, but I think using your 'everyday' kitchenware can make a very nice little tablescape, granted it's not as beautiful or grand as using 'special day' tableware at a sit-down dinner, but it can still be a pleasant table to sit at. And I think using familiar, everyday things creates a comfortable atmosphere.

I usually walk in the door and quickly gather up whatever is at hand:

This time it was two nice big glasses I had purchased earlier this summer at Target:

And a small white colander, also a purchase from Target:

I also took out two vintage shell dishes that I had purchased years ago at a flea market:

And this little lime shaped cutting board that I got as a gift years ago:

This is a perfect summer drink!

Along with our wonderful Mojitos, I have filled the colander with fresh vegetables:

And I used the little shell dishes for our favorite dipping sauces:

(This is the lazy man's [er, woman's] version of a mojito salad, fresh vegetables and papaya/mango/tomato salsa to dip them in!)

It's really a very informal, relaxing, refreshing treat on a summer evening!

On the second round we were running out of mint leaves so there was a bit of a disagreement on who would get the most mint in their drink. Guess who won?

Nah, I'm just kidding! I split them up evenly.

Good food, great drinks, and the best company, right in our own little corner of the world!
Can life get any better?

Happy Tablescape Thursday!

  5. Eileen--Everyday tablescapes are the best--love the colander with the vegetables. I wonder if the crab dishes are oven proof. They look like what my grandmother used to put her crab stuffing in. Be careful--mojitos have a definite "fluff factor" :)

  17. I think you're right. Things you're accustomed to make you feel more relaxed. I never had "china" so I never had to worry about that! I love your look here, relaxed yet very elegant. (That Bill seems to know a little bit of everything, doesn't he?) I love those little shell dishes! You're getting better and better at this photography, I'm telling you! Much faster than I caught on! Happy Tablescape Thursday, my friend!

  19. Thank you for visiting my blog, I hope you'll come back often.

I like your tablescapes (both this weeks and last weeks). I find such inspiration traveling the net and looking at others concepts and ideas. I see things in ways I hadn't thought of before. Makes me see treasure I might not have otherwise when I visit thrift shops.

  25. What wonderful post. Those shell dishes are so neat. I have never seen anything like them...but that is not surprising. :) Don't get around much anymore...except on here..and of course garage sales. Target! LOVE that store! Always great finds there and I am looking forward to their Halloween displays and plan to hit them EARLY this year before everything is gone. (A last year experience!) :)
I found your blog on "Happy To Be." She is one of my very favorite blogger friends!
I must try your Mojitos recipe though I am not much of a drinker...they look great and we have gatherings coming up...thanks for the info! A nice laid back evenings delight. Thanks for sharing it.

  26. I love the simpler tablescapes, with everyday things...it looks fresh and delicious, both the veggies and the drink! I haven't looked at the recipe yet...is it non-alcoholic? And on the rose picture, if it had been wood, I don't think I would have paid only $10 for it! I'm wondering if I can copy it onto wood...Nah! Have a great week-end, Eileen! Take care,
    Mary

  29. Hello darling, I am so glad you stopped by to visit me and that I was able to bring a smile to your face. Luv, I recently lost my mom and I can totally relate to the feeling you have now. My mom passed away on her birthday, so it is bitter sweet day for me!! A week before and a few days after the date, the memories simply consume me and they make me very sad and lonely. Everyone tells me it gets better, you never forget, but you learn to live with it. I am not at that stage yet and looks like you are right along with me. Darling, we will make it through this together. I have a poem about friendship up today, I ended the post by thanking you for being my friend and I mean it, I never dreamed I will make so many sweet and kind friends while blogging. But I did and that is what friends are for, for us to lean on them. Lean on me and let’s get though this day.

    ♥ Hugs ♥
